Resolved Question: I have a stalker...moral support/advice--a bit long?

25 August 2010, 1:41 pm

I met a guy online about 7 months ago--his name is Don Slinn. He's the Associate Professor of Coastal Engineering at the University of Florida. I wanted to transfer to UF, he said he might be able to help. Long story short, I didn't end up moving to FL. We maintained communication through email for approximately 3 weeks after I moved back to my home state, at which point he began to be more than a little belligerent/verbally abusive. Apparently he thought there was something "between us"--there wasn't. Fast forward to today--I'm 9 months pregnant. It's not his, obviously, and I can prove it w/ a DNA test. I fell pregnant before I left for FL and met him--and there was absolutely no romantic involvement between us. Two months ago I finally blocked him from the last avenue of contacting me--Yahoo [I deleted the email address/changed my number/moved/etc.]. He'd been stalking my Y!A pages through my answers [googling them--he admitted to this]. He's now found a way to contact the biological father of my child [last night]. Let me be more clear about this--this stalker only knew the bio-father's first name and that he teaches. Nothing else. I have no idea how exactly he was able to locate him, but apparently he found his mother's number [who has a different last name than the bio-father, even] and called her. Slinn has mentioned before that he intends to find my family members and "talk" to them, as well. I honestly don't know what he's capable of. I was trying to be cordial--perhaps this person is a little off in the head and maybe saw something in our interaction that wasn't really there. He was never really personally threatening, so I didn't file a report then. However, when I finally blocked him from Yahoo messenger, I told him that if he contacted either me, my family, or the bio-father, I would report him to the police. After the bio-father told me that he'd been contacted by this person, I began filing reports with UF's HR department, Employee Relations, Campus Police, Gainesville's PD, and my local PD. I've still got some of his emails that I've forwarded to all of these people. I no longer have the texts or the online conversations as they were deleted when I changed my SIM card [with the phone number] but everyone with whom I've spoken is taking this very seriously, and the head of employee relations stated that he'll be fired if the investigation yields anything [which, with all this info, I assume it will]. What else can I do? Has anyone else been through something like this? It's got me very upset and concerned... Thanks for reading.... Read More »
